Many children spend a significant amount of time during formative years in childcare centers. The providers in these environments play an important role in helping children develop healthy eating and physical activity habits that will last a lifetime. Good nutrition and physical activity are essential to a young child’s growth and development. The early years of childhood, from birth to age five, are a critical period for the development of these healthy behaviors that can have a lifelong impact on a child’s quality of life.

Early-learning and childcare centers face a unique set of challenges when it comes to providing opportunities for healthy eating and physical activity including limited hours, educational objectives, and budgets.

The 5-2-1-0 Childcare Center Program addresses these challenges by working with area childcare centers and pre-schools show them the low cost and no-cost ways to implement and maintain the 5-2-1-0 message.

Let’s Move! Child Care is a national program that promotes the local adoption of physical activity and healthy nutrition best practices for children ages 0-5. Providers who fully meet the best practices in the goal areas are rewarded with a certificate of completion and featured on the national map.

Florida currently leads the nation with over 200 recognized providers on the map, including 10 in our community. For more information, visit their website at
